In response to the situation in Ukraine, Masaryk University is organizing aid for Ukrainian students, academics and their families. On this page, you will find information regarding the aid provided by MU.
Statement of the Rector’s Board of Masaryk University of 1 November 2022
The Rector’s Board of Masaryk University – at a time between the anniversary of the foundation of the independent Czechoslovakia and the anniversary of the events of November of 1939 and 1989, and being mindful of the legacy of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk – addresses all members of the academia, students and employees of the university with the following statement and appeal.
Statement of the MU Rector
The management of Masaryk University is deeply concerned about the developments in Ukraine. Masaryk University is ready to show solidarity and offer a helping hand to the citizens of Ukraine within its capabilities.
Statement of the MU Academic Senate
At its April session, the Academic Senate of Masaryk University condemned the invasion of the sovereign territory of Ukraine by the Russian Federation and expressed its solidarity with the citizens of Ukraine and with the members of the academic communities of Ukrainian universities and scientific institutions.
Help for Ukraine:
Masaryk University has involved 1,020 volunteers in helping Ukraine in various areas through MUNI HELPS Volunteer Centre, collected a total of CZK 1,375,000 for educational and humanitarian purposes, and supported current MU students from Ukraine with scholarships, paying CZK 1,093,000 in the scholarship programme for Ukrainian students in 2022. MU has employed and concluded employment contracts with more than a hundred employees from Ukraine.
Admissions
Masaryk University accepted 941 applications for study in an extraordinary admission procedure, which concerned students from Ukraine and took place from 15 April to 31 May 2022. 479 students have already been accepted to study.
In 2022, Masaryk University provided facilities for organizing the admission procedure for applicants to study at Ukrainian universities. 1,800 applicants took the entrance tests at MU.
I need help
Scholarships for new students from Ukraine
Masaryk University in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports launched scholarships programmes for Ukrainian students to complete their studies in the Czech Republic. For more information, please contact the office for studies or international office of your faculty.
Doctoral studies
Masaryk University offers the opportunity to consult dissertations in progress to Ukrainian students who are currently unable to consult at home institutions. Those interested can contact phd@rect.muni.cz. You can use this e-mail address also for questions regarding the admission process to PHD studies at MU.
Help with adaptation and integration issues
The MU Career Center provides counseling and educational services, support to students from Ukraine in matters of adaptation and improvement of the integration process in the new study conditions and on the labor market.

Psychological help
The MU Counseling Center offers Psychological Counseling for MU students as well as Criss Psychological Help in Ukrainian. More information can be found here.

Interpreting into the Czech language
The MU Faculty of Education and its Department of Russian Language and Literature and the Department of Slavonic Studies at the MU Faculty of Arts are helping Ukrainian citizens with interpreting. If you need translation or interpreting, write to pomoc@muni.cz.

Accommodation at MU
In the first weeks after the conflict broke out, Masaryk University offered accommodation to those affected by the war in Ukraine. MU provided up to180 places in the MU dormitories, the Šlapanice center and in the rooms and apartments of the Telč University Center. Accommodation capacity is currently occupied.
Leisure activities
The MU Mendel Museum offers free admission to the new Genetics exhibition for Ukrainian families. Museum also prepares tours of the museum in the Ukrainian language.
The Botanical Garden of the MU Faculty of Science offers free entry to the greenhouses of the Botanical Garden for Ukrainian citizens. More information can be found on the botanical garden website.

Contribute to MU financial aid for Ukraine
In response to the situation in Ukraine, MU has announced financial aid for educational and humanitarian purposes, financial contributions can be sent through the MU Shopping Centre. More information, including the amount currently collected, can be found at the website of MUNI HELPS.
