The three-year project follows up long years of research and publication by the applicant. It deepens and extends the existing view of what has until now been the socially marginal phenomenon of environmentally-friendly ways of life. So far in the perception of the majority population and in the mass media, its limiting aspect has been emphasised - "voluntary modesty". The applicant will study in particular the positive aspects of an environmentally-friendly lifestyle, which is an opportunity for personal development as well as relative independence from external economic and political manipulation. At the same time, she wants to question the existing stereotypes and myths concerning a return to primitivism. In the empirical part of the project, the applicant is preparing a comparative survey to demonstrate changes having arisen in the voluntarily modest families over the decade that has elapsed since her 1992 research (as described in the book "The Colourful and the Green: Some Chapters on Voluntary Modesty, 1994.
