From the short-term point of view, we would like to investigate a group of polymorphisms of candidate genes for acute pain perception and choose the polymorphisms, the interaction of which influences the acute pain perception most. The study will also aim to turn the physicians´attention to the problem of acute postoperative pain tratment. The model of acute pain could help to clarify the development of chronic pain and to more effective treatment (e.g. gene therapy?). From the long-term point of view, our aim is to find such genotypes (interactions of polymorphisms of candidate genes), the knowledge of which (in every patient) will enable to improve the general comfort of ghe surgical patients. More effective treatment of acute pain can minimize the danger of development of decreased pain threshold (sensitization of operated patients to future pain).
