In the Baroque era, opera belonged to the fundamental manifestations of musical life. The productions of Italian opera in Moravia represent the most interesting phenomenon of our Baroque music. The project of The Italian Opera in Moravia in the First Half of the 18th Century aims to follow the research initiated by founder of musicology in Brno Vladimír Helfert and his pupils. However, it was only the nonmusical sources which were the subject of research. The musical aspects were discarded as the musical sources in Czechoslovakia were missing, and Czech musicologists did not have an access to the foreign archives at that time. Today, at the time of European integration, which is also evident in the field of culture, it is eventually possible to explore the archives in Austria, Italy, Germany and other European cities. The project aims to examine the musical aspects of operas produced in Moravia and to reconstruct the original repertoire from the supreme Baroque era in a complex way.
