We will study an uptake and accumulation of selenium by green algae (Chlamydomonas, Scenedesmus, Chlorella). Changes in ratio of low-molecular weight forms of selenium and selenoproteins at different concentrations of selenium supplied and activity of selenoproteins GHX2, TR1 in different cell cycle phases will be followed. Localization of selenium in cells will be studied at ultra-thin sections by electronmicroscopy. By testing of different growth conditions(light intensity, spectral composition of light, temperature, CO2, nutrition), the best conditions for maximal production of selenium compounds in synchronous algal cultures will be found out. The part of the project will be a selection of strains with high selenium uptake ability. Results of laboratory experiments will be tested in production photobioreactors.
