Robert (1201 - 1240), Bishop of Olomouc, in one of the characters of Czech history to whom, despite his indisputable significance, scholars have not paid appropriate attention. Besides few contributions touching upon various areas of his activity there is no edition or analysis of Robert's literary writings, although they are essential for understanding the personality of this Cistercian and at the same time they belong to the earliest documents of Czech-Latin literature with an autohor known by name. The submitted project intends to contribute to an improvement on the unsatisfactory state of research by means of a critical editon of Robert's commentary on the Song of Songs, called the Compilatio super Cantica canticorum, along with an introductory literary-historical study, which would put the work in the context of European medieval literature, analyse its relations to the Cistercian background and last but not least approach the personality of the author himself.
