- The Church of Jerusalem and Its Role in the Social Formation of Early Christanity
The aim of the project consists in an analysis of the concept of the Jerusalem church which represents the very axis of Lukan conception of linear Christian history and its locative roots in Jerusalem. This topic is dealt in following aspects: the passion stories formation with regard to the historical background of its localization to Jerusalem; the historicity of Jesus school in Jerusalem as a part of differentiation between Jesus and Christ groups; mythical function of ?the primordial Jerusalem church? before the Jewish Revolt and after it; criticism of dichotomy between Hellenism and Judaism as an explanatory scheme of Christian origins; Stephen and the Hellenists in the Jerusalem church; the so called Jerusalem Council in the context of the conflict in Antiochia; the theological meaning of Paul´s collection for the poor in Jerusalem. The project respects academic religious studies assuming religion to be a socially shared phenomenon of human culture. Instead of theological frame of eschatology, derived from primordial Easter events, the project pays attention to the social formation of early Christian groups and to the social location of their mythmaking activities. Besides classical methods of biblical work with texts, the project follows especially new inspirations from the fields of comparative religion and socio-rhetorical approaches.
