The research project focuses on the institutions of partnership and family in late modern society. The example
of lesbian families will be employed to show the changes in the fields such as: motivation for a commitment
and starting a family, intimacy, gender status and gender roles, establishment of kinship ties, planned
parenthood.
The project takes up on an applicant's research from 2004-2005. The descriptive level capturing the everyday
practice of gay and lesbian parenthood will be enriched with the more detailed conceptual background in
current discussions on the family changes in general. The tension between the so called family crisis on the one
hand and the existence of the new forms of partnership and parenthood on the other hand will be addressed.
Methodologically the project is designed as a qualitative ethnographic research employing the techniques of
semi-structured interview, participant observation and field notes.
The main contributions and outputs of the project will be a published monograph and an article in a foreign
journal or monograph.
