Cognitive reserve (CR) is an accumulation of neural resources due to genetic and life-long environmental factors mitigating effects of age-related brain diseases. Multiple neural mechanisms have been advocated in cross-sectional studies. We propose to examine a year-long effect of CR on changes in structural and dynamic functional connectivity and white matter lesions, and relation to cognition. We will focus on differential changes in healthy elderly, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease.
