Cancer is the leading cause of death in economically developed countries and the second leading cause of death in developing countries. According to IARC (International Agency for Research on Cancer), more than 14,5 million cases of cancer were diagnosed in Europe in 2020 with the highest mortality rates of all cancer types that prevail in Eastern Europe countries. A profound understanding of the molecular mechanisms of cancer
development and progression allows us to predict more precisely the outcome and to choose the best therapeutic strategy. The aim of the proposed project is to investigate the role of adaptor protein Ruk/CIN85 in the acquisition and maintaining malignant properties of osteosarcoma cells. The project is planned for 18 months starting from 01.02.2023 and includes three stages and 9 objectives. The proposed research will be carried out at the Laboratory of Cell Differentiation, Department of Experimental Biology, Masaryk University (Brno, the Czech Republic), and a secondment could be planned to Palladin Institute of Biochemistry, NAS of Ukraine (Kyiv, Ukraine) if safety conditions are met.
