The project Description of the actual state of the foreign language courses in firms is based on a research designed from the author of the project Mgr. Pavla Benešová, Ph.D. The goal of the reasearch is to identify and to describe the specific features of the actual firm language courses. The student Pavel Furch will cooperate in the survey. He is supposed to collect the data by questionnaires.
Results
The aim of the project was to describe the present situation of foreign language teaching at in-company courses, from the viewpoint of both teachers and students. The questionnaire for teachers (17 items) showed that in-company courses are influenced by a number of specific parameters; many of them negative (irregular attendance, differences in language mastery, duties at work or the necessity to leave class earlier). The students' answers (16 items) show that the main motive to attend in-company language courses is the imperative to speak the foreign language in business communication with partners from abroad. Classes take place mostly once a week in groups and the costs are usually covered by the employer.
The students' and the teachers' responses helped us make an outline of the present situation of in-company language courses. The examination has also uncovered further issues which would be useful to explore in following research leading to the development of a methodology designed to assist teachers of in-company language courses.
