Description | Recent record of a critically threatened parasitic oxtongue broomrape (Orobanche picridis) is reported from a railway cutting near Vendolí village by the town of Svitavy (Eastern Bohemia, Czech Republic). Ten individuals of the species have been observed in sparse vegetation growing on shallow soil rich in calcareous marlstone debris. It is the only recently known site of the species in the region. Vegetation of calcareous screes with red hemp-nettle (Galeopsis angustifolia) and semi-dry grasslands of Gentiano-Koelerietum pyramidatae association occurs here as well, which makes the site an important outpost of thermophilous vegetation at middle altitudes near the Bohemian-Moravian border. |
