Description | The chapter presents a detailed insight into the households and craft workshops of the townpeople, based on archaeological finds. This topic is also related to our understanding of everyday life. The text gives a broad description, including illustrations, of the inventory of a standard town household. Special attention is devoted to kitchen and dining utensils. The text also focuses on the heating system, especially tiled stoves. It makes a general mention of craftsmen's tools and smaller, solid products (knife-handles, buckles, combs, dice, brooches, bells and metal-casting objects). The production of weapons and fabrics was important, while the making of toys was indispensable. There is scant evidence of musical instrument. |
