Description | The paper sums up the contemporary knowledge on the surgical treatment of the liver metastazes of colorectal carcinoma. Techniques, indications, complications ad the position of the surgery within the necessarily multi-modal treatment is being ilustrated based on own experiences and literature sources. Liver metastases of colorectal carcinoma tend to develop in nearly 70% of the patients. They stand for a fairly well curable fourth stadium disease. However, it is not more than 1/3 of the cases that is primarily resectable. The ideal treatment beeng necessarily multimodal is to be necessarily consulted on a multi-discplinary basis. The progress in the surgical techniques, intensive care and systemic anti-tumoral treatment has brought about a significant extension of the resecability. Thus the future liver remnant volume has been left the only contra-indication to surgery. However. strategies have been put forward to overcome this in a portion of the patients. |
