Description | The article deals with the documents intended for the visually impaired users in the context of library and information science. It notes that, in the context of this discipline, there are a small number of studies devoted to these issues. This state is explained by the fact that library and information science has left the classical document paradigm and it has shifted its attention from documents to information and from information to information users and creators. This leads to some of the damaging consequences, especially in terms of questions connected with information delivery to users with visual disabilities. These consequences may be overcome by returning to the document paradigm, which has been reincarnated for the needs of a theory, and for the needs of a practice in the framework of library and information science. One of the practical outputs is the study “Functional requirements for bibliographic records”, which models the area relating to the collections of memory institutions. This study is an effective tool for the modeling documents for visually impaired users whose advantages are shown in the article. A modeling of documents for visually impaired users in the framework of the document paradigm of library and information science can contribute to more effective mediation of information for this group of users. |
