Description | The author of the present article demonstrates the conception of the Brno Slavonic studies in the Institute of Slavonic Studies at the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University. He stresses its orientation upon comparative and genre studies connected with the methodology of immanent approaches (Prague Linguistic Circle and Frank Wollman's eidology) and recently with the concept of integrated genre typology as a Brno specification of area studies or, more precisely, philological-area studies, an attempt at the synthesis of philology as such and its transcendence towards the elements of political science, sociology and social psychology. Then the author returns to the past traditions of the Brno Slavonic studies, e. g. the extra-university critics, such as František Vymazal, Alois Augustin Vrzal, or later also some inter-war university lecturers, such as Sergii Vilinskii, Roman Jakobson, Jiří Horák, Frank Wollman, Jiří Jirásek etc. |
