Description | At a time when English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) less and less expects its speakers to conform to native speaker norms of 'correctness', idioms and phrasal verbs may not be everyone’s cup of tea. However, are we in danger of clipping our learners’ wings if we neglect them in the classroom? Whether you think they are the bees knees or they really get your goat, like it or lump it, idioms and phrasal verbs broaden our learners’ vocabulary helping them to come across more naturally and fluently, whilst sounding more sophisticated. This session aims to take a brief look into the wonderful world of idioms and phrasal verbs and how to incorporate them into our teaching with the resources available to us. So whether you find them confusing, fascinating, or amusing, why not bite the bullet and come and see how to keep idioms and phrasal verbs very much alive and kicking in your classroom. |
