Description | Diabetes mellitus (DM) is the most common clinical gerontology and very severe metabolic disorder. DM affects 15-20% of the older age population. Less frequently we encounter in old age with DM type 1 patients who bring in a younger age or may arise in the Senio, eg type LADA, where it comes to the ongoing autoimmune insulitidu years. For seniors, it is mostly about type 2 DM (over 70 years to 95%). For the development of DM 2 are responsible in particular: 1 insulin resistance (impaired insulin action in its relative abundance in circulation), the second insulin secretion defect (defect B-cells); 3rd disturbance suppression of gluconeogenesis. Nearly half of older diabetic knows about his disease. DM2 in old age there is interaction of genetic predisposition and environmental factors. The aim of therapy at the age of DM is to improve the quality of life. The DM 1 will absolutely always indicated insulin therapy. Treatment options represent a DM2: diet, physical activity, oral antidiabetics, insulin, and education. |
