Description | Sonography is the first diagnostic imaging method in newborns and infants with suspicion on diseases of musculoskeletal apparatus. High frequency linear probe (7.5-10 MHz ) is used to examine soft tissues and cartilaginous nonossified joints. The usage of color and pulsed Doppler techniques allows evaluate the flow in big vessels and vascularization of soft tissue masses. The examination of children patients is limited by low cooperation with them, which is needed for these modalities. Contrast enhanced sonography (CEUS) is not possible to use in children and adolescents in our country because of missing registration in patients younger than 18 years. MRI is the second step in imaging methods in most patients with soft tissue mass. The authors present the review of musculoskeletal apparatus sonography in infants and children and differential diagnosis. |
