| Description | Soon after their expulsion from the Holy Land the Hospitalles conquered Rhodos (1309). They defended the island against the emires of Asia Minor and against the Ottomans, who twice attempted to seize Rhodes. Neither reinforcement of the city walls and other fortifications prevented in 1522 the Order leaving the island. The preservation of the individual monuments is different, preference is put mainly on Rhodes town and Lindos. |
