Description The text is dedicated to a relationship between electoral systems and party system stability. The basic indicator used for evaluating party system stability is volatility calculation according to the Pedersen index. Analyse as such focus on possible solution of the cathegory of „other“ parties in the volatility calculation and on six issues where an electoral could influence party system stability or where an omision of thereof could fundamentally influence election result. The issues are: (1.) a realtionship between measured voter volatility and parliamentary volatility; (2.) a given country s affiliation to to the Western European region or to the group of countries under the Communist regime up to the late 1980s; (3.) development of volatility over time; (4.) differences in volatility as such in various electoral systems; (5.) possible interconnenction between electoral reforms and volatility; and (6.) relationship between electoral system, volatility and government alternation. The research includes all European countries excerpt of Russia and Belarus. It covers last twenty years.Volatility calculation include all parties which earned at least one seat or at least one percent of votes.
