Description | Pruritus vulvae is perceived by the patient as a negative, annoying sensation, a sensation which leads to scratching, which in turn causes frequent pathological efflorescences in the skin and mucous membranes of the outer genitalia. Itching of the vulva can have various causes, occurring most frequently as a result of infectious diseases. Oncologic affections manifesting by pruritus cannot be discounted either. Dermatologic diseases localised to the vulva often cause itching as well. The possible causes of pruritus can be highly varied and in resolving them, interdisciplinary cooperation is necessary, involving especially gynaecologists, dermatologists and his-topathologists. |
