Description | The paper focuses on patterns of religious reproduction in the Czech Republic and analyzes them in the context of the (post-)Communist region in the post-1945 period. We start with the basic claim formulated by the secularization thesis concerning the close relationship between modernization (in its multidimensionality) and societal secularization. We also believe that social significance of religion as a cultural phenomenon in a society depends principally on its success in intra-generational and inter-generational reproduction in time. Our main focus is the Czech Republic as one of the most secularized countries in contemporary Europe. We seek to analyse and suggest possible explanations for this fact. Our analysis presented here is based on empirical data from International Social Survey Programme 2008. |
