Description The exhibition is an appendix to the permanent exhibition of early art showing selected works by Dutch painters from the 17th century (Simon de Vlieger, Jan Abrahamsz Beerstraaten, Anthonie Palamedesz, etc.). These are set in counterpoint to works by painters from the 19th century (Florent Willems, Remi van Haanen, Josef Carl Berthold Püttner, etc.) created in the 19th century with open admiration of the original Baroque models. The works displayed from the collections of the Moravian Gallery in Brno demonstrate how the particular genres were approached by artists whose lives were separated by a gulf of two centuries. Despite the frequent traces of direct thematic and formal emulation, the later works are far from being mere imitations of the Dutch masters from the "Golden Age". Under a veneer of period historicism their individual idiom reveals an embracement of the new technological possibilities of the 19th century as well as some elements of modernism.
