Description | Lactose tolerance and intolerance associated with the genetic makeup of an individual. The decline of lactase occurs soon after weaning or gradually during early childhood. The study supports the theory about the origin of the gene variant gene mutations occurring in lactose tolerant populations. There are several hypotheses about the origin of lactose tolerance: cultural-historical, hypothesis related to the arid climate of the desert and the hypothesis of geographic context. In the Czech Republic deficiency of the enzyme lactase in some way affects around 6-12% of the population. There are also so-called secondary type of lactose intolerance in connection with damage to the epithelium of the small intestine after treatment, or even some diseases. The latest diagnostic tests are genetic tests. Lactose intolerance usually does not require the exclusion of milk and dairy products from the diet. It is necessary to respect the individual tolerance of certain amount of lactose. |
