Description Objective of this study was to analyse antipsychotic treatment of hospitalized patients with schizophrenia and monitoring of its dynamics. Methods: A retrospective analysis of medical records of patients with schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder hospitalized at Department of Psychiatry in Brno during the period 2006-2010, was performed. Results: Total of 561 medical records of 264 patients (175 men, 89 women) were analyzed. During the studied period an increased prescription of antipsychotic combinations was found, especially of atypical antipsychotics combinations (21% of hospitalizations in 2006, 35% in 2010). The most frequently used antipsychotics, either alone or in combinations, were clozapine and olanzapine. Olanzapine was used in monotherapy and in combinations during 208/561 hospitalizations, clozapine during 150/561 hospitalizations. In a detailed analysis of all combinations including cross-titration during the switch, the most frequently used combination was the combination of clozapine resp. olanzapine with risperidone (11% resp. 19% of hospitalizations). Conclusion: There is an increase in the number of hospitalized patients with schizophrenia receiving combinations of antipsychotics, especially of atypical antipsychotics combinations.
