| Description | The present etymology is based on witness of Herodot [IV, 19; 20; especially 56], informing us that the river XXXX represents an arm of the Borysthenes-Dnieper. In this perspective it is natural to etymologize it with help of Khotan Saka gara- "limb", derivable from proto-Iranian *ga(:)thra which corresponds to Vedic ga:tra- "limb or member of the body; instrument of moving". |
