Description | One of the increasingly popular genres in the new online media is live sports commentary on the web pages of major newspapers. Showing that the textual organization contains features of asynchronous chat communication, the presentation documents how the interaction between the readers is managed online and how it relates – as well as fails to relate – to the events that are being reported at the same time. It is argued that live text commentary is particularly suited for enabling audience participation by allowing select audience members to become, to a limited extent, co-authors of the news text. |
