Description | This is a summary of the theory of operation Bourdieuovy field of cultural production and its application to the literary field. A comprehensive encyclopedia created under the participation of numerous renowned specialists and intended to present scholarly concepts which exercised an essential influence on the way of conceiving of literature during the 20th century. The scope of the disciplines involved tends to cross the borders of criticism. As a result, works of e. g. linguistic or philosophical nature are analyzed, as well as contributions in media studies or psychology. On the other hand, several concepts in literary theory have been able to inspire methodological changes in the above mentioned disciplines in recent decades. Taking this into account, the entries have been chosen in order to provide a virtual map of crucial developmental aspects of literary theory as well as the interdisciplinary dialogue. Thus, the publication is meant not only for literary scholars (both academics and students) but also for representatives of the humanities and social sciences, such as cultural studies and media studies, theory of fine arts, history, gender studies and the like. The encyclopedia presents an essential extension and update of an original project introduced and headed by the late scholar Vladimír Macura in the 1980s Each of more than one hundred entries is based on a detailed and commented reading of the original scholarly text which represents a unique scientific concept. Its second part provides an analysis and interpretation of the concept, explanation of its historical and interdisciplinary context as well as aspects of the development of the problem touched upon. The introductory essay by literary theoretician and historian Aleš Haman illuminates the main methodological streams in a historical perspective, thus providing cues for detecting links between individual models, schools of criticism and disciplines. |
