Description | The numerous collection of French horns from the Czech Museum of Music includes a multitude of instruments originating in the 18th century. French horns by Czech manufacturers have an important place among them, documenting the contemporary level of craftsmanship of Czech music instrument makers. Two French horns dated 1752 and signed Johann Georg Fratisch belong to the oldest ones. Other Czech instruments in the collection confirm the often citen assumption that Czech manufacturers supplied instruments mainly for municipal and church service while musical ensembles of local noblemen got their instruments from abroad. |
