| Description | Drawing on broader ethnographic research on au pair experience in London 2004-2005 the aim of the paper is to show what kind of material practices au pairs from Slovakia use for appropriation of their rooms in the homes in London. The paper reveals how host families furnish the au pair rooms and what au pairs do with the space provided. The ethnography shows that au pairs use a wide range of strategies that allow them both appropriation of the space as well as accentuation of their relationship to their hosts. |
