Description The imperial époque in Tibet was one of the most important episodes of this region. During a relatively short period Tibet, previously almost unknown, became an important international player in the given area. This role was also reflected in literature. For the first time not only local views but also perspectives of the broader discovered world appeared. The surrounding countries were heavily influenced by Buddhism at that time. Later Buddhist chronicles refer to ancient pre-Buddhist periods in Tibet as to the “barbarian times”. Based on the concrete texts in this book the author attempts to reconstruct the literature of that times. The presented works do not mention barbarian times. On the contrary, they endeavor to merge the religious role of the Tibetan emperor with basic Buddhist concepts.
