Description | The paper concerns about the effect of predominant family structure in childhood on entry into the first coresidential union (cohabitation or marriage). The nature of cohabitation is changing. Authors employ the typology of unmarried cohabitation by Heuveline and Timberlake, and argue that cohabitation in the Czech Republic has changed from precursor to marriage towards stage in the marriage process. Cohabitation is becoming increasingly common part of the partnership and family paths, and the time span spend in cohabitation is increasing. Moreover, the selection into cohabitation lowers and the effect of childhood family structure on the first union entry is changing. Analysis of the data from the first wave of Generation and Gender Survey 2005 shows how the effect of the structure of family of origin changed since the 1960s in the Czech Republic. |
