Description | In this chapter, I analyze sexological texts written and published during ‘normalization’ (1969-89). My aim is to juxtapose normalization as a historical era with the scientific understanding of its opposite, deviance. Analyzing the discursive renderings of sexual deviance as articulated by the discipline of sexology, I explore the ways in which sexual (and implicitly gender) normalcy was constructed. Also, I capture tensions between the categories of the normal and deviant and its presence and absence in Czechoslovak sexological discourse. |
