Description The authors present a review of current knowledge about complex pathogenetic and pathophysiologic mechanisms involved in the development of sepsis in salmonellosis. Mechanisms such as lipopolysacharide-induced NOD-like receptor activation, escaping lysosomal degradation, intracellular replication niche formation, cytoskeleton reorganization, proapoptotic mechanism induction, changes in cytokine levels (IL-1beta, TNF-alfa) and function of omptin proteases are discussed.
