Description The aim of this study was to explore the links between attachment and alcohol use in young adulthood. The sample consisted of 618 respondents aged 24-30. Attachment (avoidance and anxiety to significant others) and relational commitment were found to be significant predictors of drinking, even after controlling for gender and alcohol consumption of significant others.. The relationship between attachment and alcohol use was partially mediated by coping motives for drinking. Furthermore, it was found that the attachment was a significant predictor of the consequences (both positive and negative) attributed to alcohol when the relationship was explained mainly by avoidance and anxiety to the romantic partner.
