Description The article deals with a relationship between an optimism/pessimism and coping, an academic achievement and a human health. It presents four theoretical streams of optimism/pessimism: dispositional optimism (Carver, Scheier, 2002), optimism as an explanatory style (Seligman, 1990), unrealistic optimism (Weinstein, 1980) and defensive pessimism (Cantor, Norem, 1989).
