Description | Introduction: The study compares health-supportive behavior and life style of students and elderly citizens. Method: (A) research samples: Study 1: university students (N = 4 290, 1286 men and 3004 women, 18 – 29 years ) Study 2: senior citizens (N = 105, 39 men and 66 women, 60 - 88 years) (B) methods: Study 1: NEO Five Factor Inventory (Costa, McCrae; Hřebíčková, Urbánek, 2001) Satisfaction with Life Scale (Pavot, Diener, 1993) Study 1,2: Health-Related Behavior Questionnaire (Dosedlová, Klimusová, Slováčková, Kebza, 2011) Self-efficacy Scale (Jerusalem & Schwarzer, 1992) Results: (1) In cluster analysis (k-mean method), 6 different life style types were defined by using 11 health-related factors (Sporting Enthusiasts, Perfect Students, Mature, Blissfully Ignorant, Party Crowd, Hypochondriacs) on the students´ sample. The same method was used to define 4 senior life style types (Hedonists, Indolent Abstainers, Ignorant and Perfect Seniors). (2) Analyses of variance were conducted to investigate whether people in different life styles differ in chosen personal characteristics. The effect was significant at the 0.01 level for all studied variables. Conclusion: We identified similar students´ and seniors´ life styles which stem from health-related behavior – sporting hedonists, perfect and ignorant people. Forty per cent of students and forty per cent of elderly citizens meet all criteria of a healthy life style. |
