Description | According to data obtained during my own internal research in the environment of the Department for the Study of Religions, Faculty of Arts in Brno, some students of the Study of Religions directly link this field of study with their own spiritual seeking. It can be supposed that for a part of the students, secular (non-religious) academic study of religions becomes a means of personal spiritual development. The contribution tries to answer the question of what is then the role of secular-scientific nature of Study of Religions. To grasp the problem of the relationship of personal spirituality and secular study of religions the concept of reflexive spirituality is used. With its help, the aim of the text is to show that the Study of Religions provides for reflexive spirituality key themes in the form of religious pluralism and reflexivity. Individual spiritual worldview is shaped not only with transcendent meanings of religions, but also with expert knowledge. Secular-scientific nature of the Study of Religions then provides distance from various religious perspectives, which enables their critical comparison. Acquiring new knowledge about religions is related to the personal shift / development and in some cases serves for the clarification of their own faith as a self-reflexive project of the spiritual seeking. |
