| Description | In his chapter entitled "Research on the Bektashi Order from the mid-19th Century to the Present," Milan Strmiska covers the history of research on the Bektashi Order and Alevism. He opens with a treatment of the beginnings of research in the 19th century and continuing on into the 1920s. The next portion of the work focuses on the groundbreaking research by John Kingsley Birge in the 1930s, which remains a milestone in Bektashi research to this day. Then the author maps the Bektashi and Alevist research boom that began in the 1980s, culminating with the work of Irene Melikoff, with the integration of Alevist and Bektashi intellectuals into research, and also with regional studies. In the conclusion, the author names the Czech works on the Bektashi and the research to date in this area in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. |
