Description | Cornštejn and Nový Hrádek Castles have supplemented the 14th century castle network in the valley of the river Dyje. The former one was founded by the family Bítov of Lichtenburg before 1343. The ruin has been renovated since 1973 using cement mortar, and the residential tower was interconnected by a catwalk with advanced fortification. The other ruin did not suffer so much because it was situated within the border zone until 1990. It evaded damages from visitors, hard “conservation” interventions and, what is most important, it was cleaned from disturbing vegetation. |
