Description Presented work examined the advantage of field independent participants over the field dependent ones in cognitive functions. Many studies revealed that field independent participants perform significantly better than field dependent ones at various cognitive functions. The aim of this study was to find out, if this advantage is represented in spatial together with verbal short-term memory. The test battery consisted of test of embedded figures, verbal short-term memory test and spatial short-term memory test. The results showed that field independent participants performed significantly better in the spatial short-term memory test while the verbal short-term memory performance did not differ among field dependent and field independent participants. These results suggest that field independence is closely linked to spatial cognitive function.
