Description | The aim of this paper is to discuss the relationship between ideal dialogue and institutional dialogue in the context the classroom. The paper focuses on the research on teacher questions and IRF exchanges in classroom interaction. From the perspective of institutional dialogue the paper discusses selected results of classroom research. It is concluded that when taking the aims of the situations under scrutiny into consideration, the presence of IRF exchanges and closed/display teacher questions plays an important role in classroom interaction. Normative attempts to implement ideal dialogue into classroom interaction are then problematized from the perspective of institutional dialogue. |
