Description | The article refers to the discussion on the Labour Courts Law of the First Czechoslovak Republic and shows how the opinion on the role of lawyers (´advocates´) in representing the parties in the court proceedings was changing during the discussion. The former legislation concerning the trade courts, which were the direct predecessors of the labour courts, excluded advocates from the proceedings. Allowing them to take part in it was mostly a consequence of the enlarged jurisdiction of the labour courts. But at the same time, some restrictions were imposed on advocates. These restrictions, dependent on the monetary value of the dispute, were justified by the attempt to make the court proceedings faster and less expensive. |
