| Description | A part of the rich mass production of Jakub Jan Ryba is a couple of pastoral masses, that are nearly unknown, with the only exception in Missa pastoralis bohemica. Among these compositions can be included also Missa in D Festis Navitatis Christi created in 1788. The work comes from the first year of Ryba's cantorial action in Rozmital pod Tremsinem. Although this mass falls between the composer's early compositions, represents in his work an important milestone. For the first time he used the interpolation of the Czech verses in the text otherwise only Latin. Totally there has been traced six different copies of this Mass in Czech archives, whose comparison yielded many interesting findings on the composition itself and about the music life in areas from which they originate. Copies differ from each minor modifications music material as well as a number of operational notes; Interestingly neither Credo insertion of another Mass in one of the copies, or transposition of the entire work in a different tonality in the copy kept in the National Library. |
