Description | The chapter is devoted to the attitude od the oldest civilizations of the world to the richness and poverty, concretely in ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt. India, China, by the Jews, ancient Greece and Rome,in the early medieval state of the Franks and shortly by the Muslims, too. Also are here followed the changes of ethical value in the so called transitional periods of history (as the epoche of the great migration of peoples between Antiquity and Middle Ages or the time of the invasions and migrations of the Vikings. Its detected here, that many sources from Antiquity and early Middle Ages within all investigated civilizations and in all explored epoches recommend to gain the richness fairly without violence and crimes,to redistribute it within the society, recommend the care for poors and armless and perceive it as a demands of gods. In the transitional periods of history we can meet only temporary turn in te ethical values, f. i. the efforts to gain the richness and prestige by wars or armed robbery. Consolidated societies, however, returned to the classical ethical values soon. In the conclusion is noted, that the care for poor people and the rational treatment with the richness are constants in the ethical thinking of mankind as a whole (also, for instance, in such sources as the Elder and Younger Edda). |
