Description The current political situation in Middle East and Northern Africa shows that the Arab revolutions led in their consequences to an increasing political instability in most of the affected countries and also to a rise of Islamic radicalism and extremism, rather than to originally declared democratization of the local regimes. The aim of this paper is to present and evaluate the current developments in particular with regard to changes in the power status quo. Special attention will be headed to political developments in Egypt since 2011, and also to the rise of the so-called Islamic State. In terms of methodology, a key approach is the analysis of available primary and secondary sources. The aim of author is to provide a coherent case study.
