Description | The paper reports on the development of lexical cohesion (the class of reiteration) in EFL student academic writing as a result of participation in a 100% online academic writing course delivered at Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic. To determine the effect of the treatment, a quasi-experimental one-group pre-test post-test design was followed. The findings indicate that after the treatment, the use of reiteration devices in participants’ compositions improved in many respects. The overall frequency of successful uses of reiteration devices increased by 25 percent. Also, a greater variety of reiteration devices was used, helping to eliminate the initial dominance of simple repetition and substitution. |
