Description | Macroprudential regulation is not a brand new term. The need for more complex regulation of a banking sector aiming at systemic risk started to be discussed during the financial crises of 2008 and ideas of establishing a new "macroprudential pillar" or regulation emerged soon. After having been embodied in the Basel III, these rules were adopted also at the EU level, so that they could become a part of the Czech law as well. One of the core tools of macroprudential regulation is "countercyclical capital buffer". In this article, the autor first outlined the economic and legal aspects of the buffer, so that he could later focus on the steps that the Czech National Banks has taken with respect to setting countercyclical capital buffer. |
