Description Acute pancreatitis still belongs to the serious illnesses, that its most severe cases mortality is around 20 percent. The early stage diagnostics is crucial and essential for setting the optimal therapeutic strategy. In last years, there had been established the system of stratification of patients, according the illness severity, based on revised Atlanta classification. In diagnostics of acute pancreatitis, non-invasive imaging methods play the crucial role. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, formerly used as first choice method, had become therapeutic method in the first place. In treatment of acute pancreatitis, the principle of hypovolemic shock adjustment (from the point of view of administred liquids) was recommended and accepted. Management of pain avoids the use of infusions containing Mesocain and Procain; opioids are effective, paracethamol too. Prophylactic antibiotic administration is not recommended. Nutritive support is mainly arranged in enteral form, which is more physiological, effective, burdened with less complications; in comparison to parenterally administred nutritive intervention. Current treatment and care of patients suffering from acute pancreatitis are based on greatly sophisticated rules/guidelines in general and it is multispecialty group matter.
